In two subsequent days, the New York Times published opinion pieces on how to handle North Korea from two highly knowledgeable, rational, profoundly intelligent and experienced women who comprehend the complexities in international relations, diplomacy and governance.
First, How Trump Can Contain North Korea Without ‘Fire and Fury’ – The New York Times by Evelyn N. Farkas, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, [] a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia/Ukraine Eurasia in the Obama administration and a former staff member for the Senate Armed Services Committee, overseeing Asia Pacific defense policy.
(I’ve seen Dr. Farkas on MSNBC and have been impressed. When I searched her to get more of her background, aside from a general Wikipedia entry I found virtually nothing but right-wing attacks on her. The “virtually” is this, from Slate, provocatively entitled “Who the Hell is Evelyn Farkas?”)
Then came It’s Not Too Late on North Korea – The New York Times by Susan E. Rice, [] the national security adviser from 2013 to 2017 and the United States ambassador to the United Nations from 2009 to 2013.
