“Amtrak Will Not Fight Suits Filed in Wreck”

Although this news item presented itself rather modestly in the papers I read, I think it’s huge news. It’s what so many of us tend to hope about lawsuits like this: if the big commercial entity is clearly in the wrong, why doesn’t it admit it and settle instead of spending years and millions defending itself, and putting plaintiffs through additional hell?

In a court filing that said the railway would not contest lawsuits related to the May 12 derailment of a passenger train, Amtrak also noted the train was speeding.

Good for Amtrak.
