Animal news: alligator found in Brooklyn park lake just died

A couple of months ago, I reported on this gator as part of a post about reptiles, including the last time I saw a python. In New York City. On the sidewalk.

Sadly, the listless and freezing young gator who’d been rescued from the lake in Prospect Park just died. Bronx Zoo vets have been trying to save her over the past two months. She died of complications subsequent to ingesting a bathtub stopper.

The article in the Daily News says her name was Godzilla. This might be an example of ironic nomenclature since she was small, sick and pitiful, but in this instance it feels like misogynistic mockery. Watch your step, you bullies who are giving names to alligators. Your slights may come back to bite you.
