Cops involved in a 2012 shooting of an unarmed black man and woman in Cleveland have filed a federal lawsuit against the city charging racial discrimination. The eight white and one Hispanic officers claim in the suit filed Friday that they are being treated “substantially harsher” than black colleagues involved in shootings of African-Americans.
The shooting occurred after a chase that was prompted by what cops thought was gunfire. The officers fired 137 rounds at the fleeing car, killing the driver and his female passenger.
The cops claim they’ve been kept on restrictive duty because it’s “politically expedient.”
