“The BP Settlement: How the Lawyers See Their Role” is such a great letter to the Times, in response to a Joe Nocera opinion piece about the BP settlement. Burton LeBlanc describes beautifully why we need lawyers, and why lawsuits, especially those against corporations, are good for humanity. I have written similarly here, but couldn’t say it better. And given the onslaught, especially from the Supreme Court and other courts, against major lawsuits against corporations, it bears repeating.
Mr. LeBlanc is, as he says in his letter, the president of the American Association for Justice, also known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Given his philosophy, I’d say that his organization would be a resource if you’re looking for a trial lawyer. I assume they have members all over the country.
