There is one, called for by a grassroots group called The People’s Union.
It’s a simple request and really easy to accede to: from midnight on Friday, February 28 to, I guess, 11:59 pm, don’t buy anything from Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc. I’m adding Home Depot, CVS, Walgreens, Whole Foods, chain restaurants and fast food deliverers, especially those which have CEOs who’ve made anti-human-rights statements over the years. Two I can think of immediately are Papa John’s and Chick-fil-A.
On February 28th, buy locally. East in or take out from your local restaurants. Ship via the United States Post Office. (I’ve never understood the rationale for using UPS, FedEx or Amazon, instead of our own postal system. Those profit-making companies are not faster or more secure than the USPS.)
Oh, and don’t buy a Tesla on February 28. Or ever. European consumers aren’t. But you knew this anyway, didn’t you?
It will not take seventy-million Americans to make a solid statement here. By diminishing one day’s profits of these gigantic companies, we will be firing a warning shot and announcing our power as consumers and citizens.
