{"id":10079,"date":"2012-08-29T14:36:01","date_gmt":"2012-08-29T18:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sidebarforplaintiffs.naomifein.net\/?p=10079"},"modified":"2012-08-29T14:36:01","modified_gmt":"2012-08-29T18:36:01","slug":"trial-date-set-for-nypd-stop-and-frisk-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sidebarforplaintiffs.naomifein.net\/?p=10079","title":{"rendered":"Trial date set for NYPD stop-and-frisk case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to yesterday&#8217;s <em>Daily News<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>A 2008 federal civil rights lawsuit stemming from alleged racial bias in the NYPD&#8217;s controversial stop-and-frisk policy is finally going to trial.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Manhattan Federal Court Judge Shira Scheindlin Monday set a March 18, 2013, trial date for the hot-button case which alleges racial profiling in the way the NYPD conducts the stop-and-frisk tactic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The case was brought on behalf of plaintiffs by a terrific non-profit legal organization called the <a href=\"http:\/\/ccrjustice.org\/\">Center for Constitutional Rights<\/a>, the CCR. The NYPD will be defended by City lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>This is a good example of how long it can take to get a civil rights case into the courts for trial, and a good lesson for people who are impatient about why it takes so long.
