The Times published an excellent, clear view of the lawsuit from upstate New York,<\/a> Greece v. Galloway<\/em>, now before the U.S. Supreme Court:<\/p>\n

The wall between church and state is one of the most powerful and enduring images in American law, but as a metaphor it fails to capture the complicated and porous relationship most Americans have to the expression of religion in public life.<\/em><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, for the first time in 30 years, the Supreme Court will reconsider the contours of that relationship in the legislative setting when it hears oral argument in Town of Greece v. Galloway<\/a>. While the court has previously upheld prayers before legislative sessions, the details of the current case differ in important ways. <\/em><\/p>\n

The issue of religious expression in public places deeply concerns many of us who see the cracks religiosity has made in the wall between religion and our government. While a lot of people seem to think this is no big deal, to us it’s a gigantic deal, and is frightening.<\/p>\n

Who knows what will happen with the current Supreme Court?<\/p>\n
