Iceland grants elf rule<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Reykjavik, Iceland. \u2014 In this land of fire and ice, stories abound of the “hidden folk” \u2014 thousands of elves, making their homes in Iceland’s wilderness.<\/em><\/p>\n So perhaps it was only a matter of time before 21st-century elves got political representation.<\/em><\/p>\n Elf advocates have joined forces with environmentalists to urge the Icelandic Road and Coastal Commission and local authorities to abandon a highway project building a direct route from the Alftanes peninsula, where the president has a home, to the Reykjavik suburb of Gardabaer.<\/em><\/p>\n They fear disturbing elf habitat and claim the area is particularly important because it contains an elf church.<\/em><\/p>\n The project has been halted until the Supreme Court of Iceland rules on a case brought by a group that cites both the environmental and the cultural impact \u2014 including the impact on elves \u2014 of the road project. — AP<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I laugh a lot.
