The Times is trespassing on Daily News territory here. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/04\/18\/business\/media\/in-lawsuit-director-of-new-x-men-film-is-accused-of-sexual-assault.html?emc=edit_tnt_20140417&amp;nlid=42227813&amp;tntemail0=y\">Suit Accuses Director of New \u2018X-Men\u2019 Film of Sexual Assault &#8211; NYTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To me, there&#8217;s a problem with this lawsuit:<\/p>\n<p id=\"story-continues-1\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"278\" data-total-count=\"278\"><em>LOS ANGELES \u2014 The filmmaker Bryan Singer, whose big-budget \u201cX-Men: Days of Future Past\u201d is set for release next month by 20th Century Fox, was accused in a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday of drugging and raping an underage boy here and in Hawaii more than 14 years ago.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"205\" data-total-count=\"483\"><em>A lawyer for Mr. Singer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/22\/business\/22singer.html?pagewanted=all\">Martin D. Singer<\/a>, said in a statement that the claims were without merit. \u201cWe are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit,\u201d he added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"488\" data-total-count=\"971\"><em>The suit, which includes graphic, detailed allegations, was filed in the Federal District Court in Hawaii by Michael Egan, a one-time aspiring actor who is now a resident of Nevada. Mr. Egan\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/bryan-singer-accused-sexually-abusing-underage-boy\">suit alleges<\/a> that Mr. Singer provided him with drugs and alcohol and subjected him to unwanted sex on trips to Hawaii in 1999, after meeting him at California parties organized by Marc Collins-Rector, who in 2004 <a href=\"http:\/\/usatoday30.usatoday.com\/tech\/news\/2004-06-14-den-head-pleads_x.htm\">pleaded guilty<\/a> to charges of transporting minors across state lines to have sex.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"488\" data-total-count=\"971\">What&#8217;s the statute of limitation on pedophiliac rape? So why did this guy wait so long to file a lawsuit?<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"488\" data-total-count=\"971\">Here&#8217;s the California law on rape of a minor:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Cal. Penal Code \u00a7 261.5 Unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor<\/em><\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li><em>Misdemeanor if victim is not more than three years older or three years younger than offender<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Misdemeanor or felony if victim is more than three years younger than offender; punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding 1 year, or by imprisonment in the state prison<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Misdemeanor or felony if offender is at least 21 and victim is under 16; punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by imprisonment in the state prison for 2, 3, or 4 years<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But that is criminal law. What about the sexual harassment statute of limitations for civil procedure in California, in federal courts? I can&#8217;t find it. I&#8217;m sure Mr. Egan&#8217;s lawyer has a theory and I guess we&#8217;ll hear more about it after a while.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hm.
