Remember the disturbing story about a 7-month-pregnant woman driver who was tased by cops as she was taking her kid to school?<\/a><\/p>\n

She just settled her lawsuit for $45,000:<\/a><\/p>\n

Seattle will pay $45,000 to a woman whom the police shocked with a stun gun<\/a> after stopping her for speeding when she was seven months pregnant, resolving a legal dispute in a city under federal scrutiny over allegations of harsh and biased policing. The woman, Malaika Brooks, sued the city and three police officers who stopped her in 2004 as she was driving her son to school and then shocked her three times after she refused to sign a traffic ticket and leave her car under the threat of arrest. In a statement, the city attorney admitted no wrongdoing on the part of the officers involved.<\/em><\/p>\n

Little enough. And, of course, take a look at that last sentence. There’s no admission of “wrongdoing on the part of the officers involved.” I very much dispute that. Cops who taser a pregnant woman for any reason whatsoever did wrong. I wonder if Seattle intends to re-train its cops on the uses of tasers?<\/p>\n
