Things are really heating up in cool Canada, aren’t they? First we had the wild adventures of Rob Ford, Toronto’s now ex-mayor. And now: Jian Ghomeshi, CBC Radio Host, Is Fired in Sex Case – NYTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And this story is full of stuff:<\/p>\n

In a brief statement<\/a> on Sunday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a> announced that it had simply cut ties with Mr. Ghomeshi.<\/em><\/p>\n

He quickly followed up that evening with a 1,500-word Facebook post,<\/a> detailing his side of the story. In the post, Mr. Ghomeshi said that CBC had fired him over the concerns that consensual sexual acts, that he described as \u201ca mild form of Fifty Shades of Grey,\u201d were about to become public.<\/em><\/p>\n

And…<\/p>\n

Later Sunday, The Toronto Star reported<\/a> that three young women had said Mr. Ghomeshi had been \u201cphysically violent to them without their consent during sexual encounters or in the lead-up to sexual encounters.\u201d The newspaper said that the radio host \u201cstruck them with a closed fist or open hand; bit them; choked them until they almost passed out; covered their nose and mouth so that they had difficulty breathing; and that they were verbally abused during and after sex.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On Monday, lawyers for Mr. Ghomeshi filed a lawsuit against the government-owned CBC claiming breach of confidence, bad faith, and defamation, and seeking 55 million Canadian dollars, or $49 million. He has also retained a crisis management firm favored by politicians.<\/em><\/p>\n

The CBC said it would \u201cvigorously\u201d defend itself against litigation.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
