Donald Trump Releases Expanded List of SCOTUS Nominees<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump released an additional list of potential U.S. Supreme Court nominees, adding 10 names to the 11 individuals previously named. Nina Totenberg, of NPR<\/a>, writes that the new list \u201csuggests he wants to add diversity to his earlier all-white list of eight men and three women.\u201d She explains that \u201c[w]hile the new list adds the name of just one more woman, it is more racially and ethnically diverse \u2014 one African-American state court judge, a Venezuelan-born federal judge and another federal judge of South Asian descent.\u201d According to Totenberg, many of these potential nominees share \u201crecords hostile to abortion rights, same-sex marriage and federal regulations.\u201d While Carrie Severino of the Judicial Crisis Network \u201cpraised the Trump lists as \u2018unprecedented\u2019 steps that should \u2018please conservatives,\u2019\u201d others were critical. Nan Aron of the Alliance for Justice said adding some racial diversity \u201cdoesn’t change the fact that these individuals\u2019 track records suggest they would endanger the cherished rights and freedoms of Americans.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>[My bolding]
