We keep reading complaints about the Affordable Care Act, often from people you’d think could most use it. Although, of course, a large bunch of Republican-dominated states refused to expand Medicaid and take advantage of the ACA. (Take a look at this map and the swath of states not providing ACA insurance. They pretty well match the states that voted for Trump. My interpretation: people who really needed insurance–but didn’t get it because of the Republicans–are objecting to the entire Act. Bringing up memories of Thomas Frank’s book, “What’s the Matter With fill in your Republican state’s name]?” That is, the weird and scary phenomenon of masses of Americans voting against their best interests.)<\/a><\/p>\n

Back to the guy who wrote this essay. If the Republicans do as they’ve been threatening for years and end the Affordable Care Act, Ed Brayton, who has a pre-existing autoimmune disease, may die.<\/p>\n

Remember that crucial aspect of the ACA? Insurance companies can’t deny coverage for pre-existing conditions.<\/p>\n
