SUPREME COURT<\/strong><\/b><\/em><\/p>\n Conservative Groups Plan Media Campaign Supporting New SCOTUS Nominee<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Conservative groups are planning a media campaign to support the confirmation of whoever Donald Trump nominates to the U.S. Supreme Court, writes Burgess Everett for Politico<\/a>. According to Everett, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D \u2013 N.Y.) said \u201chis caucus will oppose high-court nominees that are not \u2018mainstream\u2019\u201d and \u201cwould \u2018absolutely\u2019 try and keep the seat vacant.\u201d Senate Republicans \u201cwill need at least eight Democrats to break a filibuster on a Supreme Court nominee.\u201d<\/strong> Conservative groups, including the Judicial Crisis Network, are planning ads \u201curging a number of moderate Senate Democrats to support Trump\u2019s choice.\u201d JCN\u2019s Chief Counsel Carrie Severino said: \u201cWe are preparing to launch the most robust campaign for a Supreme Court nominee in history and we will force vulnerable Senators up for re-election in 2018 like Joe Donnelly and Claire McCaskill to decide between keeping their Senate seats or following Chuck Schumer\u2019s liberal, obstructionist agenda.\u201d Everett also writes that \u201cthere will be intense pressure from liberals to block any of Trump\u2019s nominees after McConnell\u2019s unprecedented strategy of denying Obama\u2019s efforts to fill Scalia\u2019s seat.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" From the Brennan Center for Justice.
