The defendant was elsewhere, stirring and twittering in his new city, his name rarely spoken \u2014 just the title sufficed \u2014 but always top of mind inside an overstuffed Manhattan courtroom.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe president\u201d is a businessman, the plaintiffs\u2019 lawyer reminded the judge. \u201cThe president\u201d refuses to leave the marketplace. This is hardly a fair fight, the logic goes, for those who are not \u201cthe president.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to address the government\u2019s view,\u201d said the lawyer, Deepak Gupta, \u201cthat the president is above the law.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

CREW<\/a> is presenting its case in court. The best remark is the last one–from the plaintiffs.(I mean, this blog is called Sidebar for Plaintiffs, right?):<\/p>\n

[The plaintiffs] might yet win. They might not. But the moment itself, Mr. Gupta said, was worth celebrating.<\/em><\/p>\n
