Today on Twitter I’ve seen numbers of people — including Chuck Schumer and other Democratic Senators — demand Mitch McConnell curtail the Congressional recess, bring the Senate back and deal with gun violence legislation.<\/p>\n
The Senate does not need to write new gun control legislation. This past year, the House passed several substantial bills, many of which are replicated in Senate bills — the ones McConnell is sitting on.<\/p>\n
Here is a list of House bills dealing with gun control and gun violence passed during this past (116th) Congress.<\/p>\n
H.R. 8 —\u00a0 “To require a background check for every firearm sale.”<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 33 — Gun Trafficking and Prohibition Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 282 —\u00a0<\/a>Safer America for Everyone Right Now Act or the SAFER Now Act<\/strong><\/p>\n This bill establishes new restrictions and requirements regarding the sale, transfer, and possession of firearms. Specifically, it does the following:<\/em><\/p>\n H.R. 435 – Gun Violence Research Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 674 — Gun Violence Prevention Research Act of 2019 — authorizing the CDC to conduct or support research on firearms safety or gun<\/mark> violence prevention. <\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 744 — To provide states with funding to prevent suicide and violence<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 942 — Start Advancing Firearms Enhancements and Technology Act of 2018 or the SAFETY Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 1116 – Keeping Guns From High-Risk Individuals<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 1287 — No Gun For Abusers Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 1296 — Assault Weapons Ban<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 1745 — Gun Violence Prevention Act of 2019<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 2303 — To establish a registration for violent gun<\/mark> offenders, to provide for sufficient notification of their whereabouts, to honor the memory of Gladys Ricart and other gun<\/mark> crime victims, and for other purposes.<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 2585 – Resources for Victims of Gun Violence Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 2674 — Gun Theft Prevention Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 2867 — Ethan’s Law. Amending U.S. code regarding safe storage of guns.<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 3234 — Keeping Gun Dealers Honest Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 3435 — Local Public Health and Safety Protection Act<\/a><\/p>\n H.R. 4062 — To provide for the implementation of a system of licensing for purchasers of certain firearms and for a record of sale system for those firearms, and for other purposes.<\/a><\/p>\n The laws are written and passed, they are in the Senate.
