Below is a summary of the some likely 2020 candidates for the Senate, with links to the web sites of the Democrats. (Some states, like Georgia, will be having competitive Democratic primaries so I didn’t add them in.)<\/p>\n
I’m giving you the strongest Democratic candidates, each of which has a good chance of winning. Some of them are already steadily polling above their GOP opponents. (Some of the websites take you on an aerial video tour of each state; quite pretty.)<\/p>\n
If the Democrats take four Republican seats, they will have the Senate majority. After the “trial” — after witnessing the performances of the GOP — you will feel better if you want to get involved in the campaigns to unseat these Republican Senators.<\/p>\n
I send money — $7, $5, even $1. It’s fast, it’s easy, it’s inexpensive.<\/p>\n
As things are now, money is one way candidates can gain support from us regular unrich people. As things are, sadly, money is a parallel track to actual votes. Instead of raging about it, raging about repealing Citizens United,\u00a0<\/em>we must use our sunny money to beat out the dark money Citizens United<\/em> has unleashed.<\/p>\n We have money to unleash, too. A lot of us have $5 to spare. And there are a lot of us:\u00a0 nearly 73,000,000 registered Democrats in this country. If one percent of us sent $5 to one of these candidates, that’d add $3.6 million to his\/her campaign funds. If two percent of us sent $5, that’d be $7.2 million. If three percent of us — oh, I’m sure you get it.<\/p>\n And remember, senate seats can’t be gerrymandered.<\/p>\n Democratic Party senatorial candidates<\/strong><\/p>\n Barbara Bollier (an MD)<\/a> is running in Kansas against Kris Kobach (remember him? He is so unpopular in Kansas, he lost the gubernatorial election to a Democratic woman), for Pat Roberts’ seat (he’s retiring).<\/p>\n Cal Cunningham<\/a> is running against Thom Tillis in North Carolina.<\/p>\n Sara Gideon<\/a> is running against Susan Collins in Maine.<\/p>\n Theresa Greenfield<\/a> is running against Joni Ernst in Iowa. So is Eddie Mauro<\/a> and a couple of other people.<\/p>\n M.J. Hegar<\/a> is running for retiring John Cornyn’s seat in Texas.<\/p>\n Jaime Harrison<\/a> is running against Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Harrison produced the finest TV campaign ad I’ve ever seen.<\/p>\n John Hickenlooper<\/a> is running against Cory Gardner in Colorado.<\/p>\n Mark Kelly<\/a>, astronaut and Gabby Giffords’ husband, is running against Martha McSally in Arizona.<\/p>\n Amy McGrath<\/a> is running against Mitch McConnell in Kentucky. (Watch her video, too. It’s won great praise.)<\/p>\n If you want to check this out for yourself, here’s an interactive map and run-down of the states and their senators,<\/a> including who’s running, who’s retiring and which seats are considered safe. I don’t agree with all the “safe” GOP seats but that may be my inherent optimism and soaring contempt.<\/p>\n And Doug Jones could use support in Alabama.
