While we&#8217;re all going nuts over several things that have been brought to our attention over the past three years or three months, laughter is necessary. And you will find this funny.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cYou only get this chance once,\u201d Eduardo Moreno allegedly said this week. The chance to do what, you ask? Why, <a href=\"https:\/\/loweringthebar.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d34db4689a16c24346a1474e2&amp;id=9b3b054838&amp;e=b27870a939\">to try to crash the train you\u2019re driving into a Navy hospital ship <\/a>to expose a government conspiracy, of course. I think it\u2019d be more accurate to say that you will, at most, only get one chance to do that. In any event, Moreno seized his chance on Tuesday, when, prosecutors say, acting on the spur of the moment he deliberately ran a train off the tracks near the Port of Los Angeles in an effort to crash into the USNS Mercy. The ship is there so its 1,000 beds can help ease the burden on local hospitals\u2014or is it? According to Moreno, the ship\u2019s presence is \u201csuspicious\u201d and he doesn\u2019t believe it\u2019s for \u201cwhat they say it\u2019s for.\u201d (He didn\u2019t say what he says it\u2019s for.) \u201cPeople don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on here,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cNow they will.\u201d But they don\u2019t.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em>The report says Moreno was \u201ccharged with one count of train wrecking.\u201d This seemed oddly specific, and I think it actually refers to 18 U.S.C. section 1992, which is entitled \u201cTerrorist attacks and other violence against railroad carriers and against mass transportation systems on land, on water, or through the air.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/loweringthebar.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d34db4689a16c24346a1474e2&amp;id=aeb15b1b1e&amp;e=b27870a939\">According to the legislative history<\/a>, the same section was once entitled simply \u201cWrecking trains,\u201d so I think this is probably it. These days, of course, everything has to be larded up with extra words, most importantly \u201cterrorist.\u201d This is not an improvement.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>I<em>f you\u2019re thinking it would probably be hard to hit a ship with a train, one being waterborne and the other pretty much land-only, I think you are correct. Moreno, at least, did not even get close. \u201cThe train crashed into a concrete barrier at the end of the track, smashed through a steel barrier and a chain-link fence, slid through one parking lot and then a second lot filled with gravel and hit a second chain-link fence,\u201d finally coming to rest more than two football fields away from the dock. Officials said security cameras\u201dshows Moreno holding a lighted flare during the incident,\u201d either because this wasn\u2019t dangerous enough already or because he didn\u2019t think anyone would notice otherwise.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For whatever reasons?
