Gothamist reports<\/em><\/a> that the Cathedral of St. John the Divine<\/strong> was not used as a hospital because of the views of the volunteer group that would be staffing it. \u201cA plan to turn the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine into an overflow facility for COVID-19 patients has been called off, following an ideological impasse between the fundamentalist evangelical organization tapped to run the facility and leaders of the Manhattan cathedral\u2026Leaders of St. John the Divine told Gothamist the church \u201cdid not quite understand how strict their tenets were\u201d when they agreed to partner with Samaritan\u2019s Purse on a temporary hospital for overflow patients from Mount Sinai.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n This is the same group which put up medical tents in Central Park. It is run by Billy Graham’s son and that should have put everyone in New York off accepting their, uh, “Christian generosity.”<\/p>\n An excerpt from the Times’ story tells you all you need to know about why I personally don’t want their tents in Central Park, or anywhere in my city:<\/a><\/p>\n ..<\/em>.[B]ehind the scenes, Episcopal leaders said they were upset by the role played in the project by Samaritan\u2019s Purse, an evangelical humanitarian organization whose approach to L.G.B.T. issues runs counter to that of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, which is based out of the cathedral.<\/em><\/p>\n Samaritan\u2019s Purse is led by the Rev. Franklin Graham, who has been criticized for anti-Muslim and anti-L.G.B.T.Q. rhetoric<\/a> and whose organization is based on a statement of faith<\/a> that includes a belief that \u201cmarriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n These are horrible people.
