From which, these excerpts &#8212; with me getting in the way now and then:<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Linda Pennoyer, the mayor of the town of Upper Marlboro, said the zebras had become local \u201ccelebrities,\u201d their every move documented on social media.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" aria-label=\"companion column\"><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>\u201cIt is odd to see zebras crossing the road,\u201d Ms. Pennoyer said, adding, \u201cThere are worse things that could be running around Upper Marlboro \u2014 like alligators.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Well, yeah, Ms. Pennoyer!<\/p>\n<p>And did you know that a pod of zebras is sometimes called a &#8220;zeal&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>Back to the Times:<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Daniel I. Rubenstein, a professor of zoology at Princeton University, said he was not surprised that the zebras had proved so elusive.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Unlike domesticated horses that will return to a barn after they\u2019ve gotten loose, zebras are wild animals and \u201cdon\u2019t like people generally,\u201d he said. And they may not have any need to feed on the grain set out for them as bait, if they can find enough food to munch elsewhere.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>If the zebras continue to elude capture, \u201cthey should be able to do just fine\u201d in Prince George\u2019s County, Dr. Rubenstein said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The county has plenty of lawns, fields and pastures where the zebras can graze, as well as streams and other places for them to drink water, which they need to do once a day, he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>And with the dearth of lions in the Greater Washington area, they have no natural predators, he said, adding, \u201ccoyotes they can deal with.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They can deal with the coyotes, have plenty to eat and drink and life is good.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They&#8217;re still loose!
