Just made public: the 9 page “Orders of the Day” for the Proud Boys, et al, the lead insurrectionists on January 6, 2021.<\/a><\/p>\n

What grabbed me on page 1 was the reference to “Storming the Winter Palace.” That’s how this plan of attack was characterized for the attackers. I’m smelling the body odor of Steve Bannon right here.<\/a><\/p>\n

St. Petersburg’s Winter Palace, seat of Russia’s Menshevik government after the Tsar was overthrown, was “stormed” only in the revisionist history of the Bolshevik Revolution<\/a>, as I learned from Victor Sebestyen’s terrific biography of Lenin.<\/p>\n

In fact, the whole Winter Palace thingee reads like a long episode of the Keystone Kops.<\/p>\n

I’ll say this for Bannon: if he and his Leninist nomenclature were part of the January 6 insurrection plans, his storm troopers made a lot more noise than Lenin’s on the day of the attack.<\/p>\n

Problem for all of them: the United States, with its 240-year history of expanding democratic governance, is not the nascent Soviet Union, which had in its Russian Provisional Government around 8 months of trying to figure out non-despotic governance of some kind before Lenin drove them out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
