I just read Marc Elias’s article on the Materiality Provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.<\/a><\/p>\n

And I thought, gee whiz, I never knew about this fascinating aspect of a law I sort of thought I understood — but my layman’s understanding doesn’t mean too much, it seems.<\/p>\n

So I started thinking about the advanced education in government and law we didn’t realize we signed up for, just by being sentient, aware and often crazed by what’s been going on over the past nearly six years.<\/p>\n

Which makes me acutely aware of how much I didn’t<\/em> know until I was forced to pay attention.<\/p>\n

I hope you’ve been as impressed as I’ve been at the passionately delivered experiential lessons which our remarkable, if occasionally weird, country decided to play out in real life, in real time — all for the benefit of us citizens.<\/p>\n

Yep, it’s been something. And now we students get to show our gratitude by taking the final step in this wild PhD course in democracy by…voting.<\/p>\n

It’s the whole purpose of this extended, action-packed performance.<\/p>\n
