Wowser. What an elegant and inviting…hotel? Set against mountains and a spectacular sunset, it’s really enticing, isn’t it?<\/p>\n
Remember when we discussed Club Fed? <\/a>Well, what you’re seeing in that photograph is a sterling member of Club Fed, i.e., La Tuna Federal Correctional Facility in Texas.<\/p>\n I looked it up because I read one of the Jan 6 rioters has just begun his long prison sentence at La Tuna<\/a>. I was curious. This is a low-security prison. I just read through part of the prisoners’ orientation booklet. Once I got through the restrictions and points of discipline (tons), I got to recreation and the like. (Oh, and there are washers and dryers in each residential unit.)<\/p>\n Here are some (not all) of the activities of which prisoners can avail themselves: Town Hall Meetings, racquetball, handball, basketball, soccer\/softball (there’s a field), volleyball, and running and walking on a track. A weight room, of course. Bikes are mentioned, and arts and crafts. Pool, ping pong, foosball, yoga classes, guitar classes. Accordians are available, presumably for playing.<\/p>\n Also education. GEDs and ESL, and even advanced degrees (correspondence courses). You can learn car mechanics and other stuff.<\/p>\n A downside is the pay rates, the highest of which is $1.25 per hour.<\/p>\n All right! That was fun, but I’m still looking at that gorgeous building fa\u00e7ade and thinking, if the BOP doesn’t want us to term their facilities “Club Fed,” they shouldn’t take glam photos of them for the Bureau of Prisoners web sites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Wowser.
