Wasn’t it just the other day I expressed loathing for any sort of fundamentalist religion? Actually, it could have been yesterday, too. So I’ll stretch it into today. This, from Harper’s Weekly Review:<\/p>\n

In Afghanistan, where two-thirds of the population is expected to need humanitarian aid in the next year, the Taliban banned women from working for humanitarian aid agencies and from attending universities. Saudi Arabia banned female students from wearing the hijab and abaya in exam halls.*<\/em><\/p>\n

*While at first blush(er), one could think this was a liberalizing action, freeing women from the manacles of those robes, I think it was a typically anti-woman Saudi projection that women can’t be trusted not to send imposters to exams.<\/p>\n
