I can’t copy ‘n’ paste the photo of a crossroads in Lubbock, Texas — either because someone won’t let me or because I don’t know how. So I’ll describe it: In Lubbock, Texas, the birthplace of Buddy Holly, there is a crossroads subtly and wittily dedicated to their homie. Imagine it as a photo from a drone: at the end of each of the four roads is painted…Buddy Holly’s black glasses. Just that. (See the actual glasses as worn by Buddy Holly in the above link. Imagine them as painted onto four roads.)

Not any more, though. As of this month, a state-wide directive from Governor Greg Abbott demands removal of all “non-standard roadway markings and public art on roadways.” Which those Buddy Holly glasses definitely are.

See, the city of Lubbock might lose state or federal road project funding (federal, i.e., Trumpery) if the crossroad art isn’t removed.

Perplexity says, “This removal is part of a broader crackdown on creative crosswalks and similar public art installations across Texas, leaving the future of such commemorative projects uncertain.”

You know where this came from? Remember when Black Lives Matter was painted in bright yellow onto the surface of 16th Street, NW, in DC? Near the White House? And remember when Trump in his second incarnation demanded the painting be washed off? Right.

Look, I loved Buddy Holly in all his goofiness and so, most likely, did you. I believe this desecration deserves a boycott. Let’s add the entire wretched state of Texas to the ongoing Black Friday boycott of Amazon, Home Depot, Target.
