I saw the news about Trump grabbing an oil tanker which brought up the only rational question around: why?<\/p>\n
Oh, we’ve gotten a reason but the reason was superficial — words skidding over the surface. In fact, the reasons we’re offered for any<\/em> question about why this mob group, sometimes known as The Administration, is doing what it’s doing in demolishing and wrecking our government is the opposite of “reason.” It is irrational.<\/p>\n “We’re tearing up the government because the government is too big.” What do you mean by “too big?” Why have you decided it’s “too big”? Where’s the evidence of its too-bigness?<\/p>\n Why have you sent mischievous incompetents to hack into our computerized services? For fun?<\/p>\n Why have you commissioned and uniformed violent mobs to pick up and make disappear loads of people? Their answer is along the lines of, “They’re illegal.” Well, a lot of them are not “illegal.” And anyway, so what? They’re working, supporting themselves and us, contributing in all ways to this country’s treasure. So “they’re illegal” isn’t an answer. It’s not a rational policy, a reasonable reaction to…well, nothing, because there’s no reason<\/em> they’re doing it. (Rational people say that the constant demonstration of cruelty is why. But Grand Guignol performances<\/a> are utterly superficial, if horrible. And it’s not scaring most of us, so…why are they doing this? Why?)<\/p>\n Trump’s criminal wranglers get him to tell the cameras, “There’s a really good reason, believe me,” or something like that. I don’t believe him. I don’t believe any of them. In a way, this eases up on my intellectual life. Whatever they say, I flip it over and assume either the opposite is true, or there’s nothing there at all, which frees me to pick up the history books I’m reading.<\/p>\n These bizarro people are in effect stupid, six-year-old bad seeds, now grown-up (stupid) sociopaths, whose answer to “Why are you breaking up the furniture with an axe?” is “Because I want to.”<\/p>\n Why? is the only rational question right now.
