Yes, he has. And I am overwhelmed…by the grandiose inanity of his communication and of his contempt for his audience members — oops, I mean, well, it’s a problem with TV hosts and a worse problem with “reality” TV hosts.

I read it a few times to spot if there’s some hidden import buried in the gut of his memo, which — the gut — is what he’s focusing on. My gut, actually. Your gut, too.

I’ve pasted in the whole thing below for those of you who are not on Medicare and have been, therefore, wickedly deprived of the Wisdom of Oz.

At the bottom, there will be a brief response coming directly from my gut.

ÒΖ

Naomi,

Your gut has been working hard for you your whole life. The ecosystem inside it — called our gut microbiome or just “gut biome” — changes over time. So let’s give it some attention to keep you feeling your best!

And as always, don’t forget to schedule your yearly “Wellness” visit. It’s the perfect time to talk with your doctor about your digestive health, discuss any symptoms or concerns you may have, and update your personal prevention plan to keep your gut — and your whole body — feeling its best.

Here’s to a healthier gut, and a healthier you!

Stay well,

Dr. Oz

ΖÖ

My gut response:

“Give this a shot”? Is Oz being sarcastic, given his certifiable anti-vaccine stance? Or is he being subversive, trying to sneak in some rational advice, i.e., get your shots (but don’t tell anybody I told you or I might lose my job or my life)? BTW, I got my shots yesterday. Fuck you, Oz.

I’ve known about my gut’s hard work on my behalf since, oh, maybe the late 1940’s. And even if I paid no attention to it, it functioned. Because my mom introduced us to salads at every meal. And vegetables. You know. Like meals, regular meals. I guess Oz thinks most of us never had real meals until he came along. What a pompous dick!

Oz’s little passé advice column reminds me of a relative’s funeral years ago. There was a rabbi who intoned many fine and good aspects of this relative’s life and character, praising him to the skies. He was, in real life, a pretty stiff, formal and unwarm dude. My sister (now a genuine physician, utterly unlike Oz) leaned over to me and whispered, “Who’s he talking about? It’s not [our relative],” thus initiating a helpless giggle-fest which last all the way to the cemetary.

So, Dr. Oz, who are you talking to? It’s certainly not me. Must be talking to all your MAGA and MAHA fans who know not about kimchi and yoghurt but do know not to vaccinate their babies.

The final flourish comes when Oz puts the word “Wellness” into those quotes. Bad enough that someone in this administration of fools came up with the cutesy word “wellness” for my annual check-up with my internist, heretofore known as my annual check-up with my internist. Bad enough to suggest that maybe if I’m not well (or “well), I shouldn’t bother? (Oz, do you have a not-wellness visit in your back pocket?)

I know, I know. Ranting about the endless idiocy of these people is pointless. What isn’t pointless is voting early.

P.S. My gut’s actual response was what it does best. Loudly.

Yes, he has.
