“Lower Manhattan bar staves off a post-Sandy eviction”

Here’s a story from today’s Daily News.

This is a post-Sandy story. And I think the landlord in this situation — which has landed in Manhattan Supreme Court — sounds unfair.

First, the bar, Murphy’s Pub, had no power and gas because of Sandy floods, and was shuttered for 40 days due to flood damage. Then the landlord encouraged the bar owner to fix the place up rather than abandon it, and after the bar owner spent $20,000 to do exactly as the landlord suggested, the landlord is now trying to evict him for not paying his rent.

Justice Carol Edmead, though, sounds like a good judge.
