On the back side of the big Tracy Morgan v Walmart lawsuit settlement was a teeny little article that, in the nature of things, is even bigger news for far too many people in New York, i.e., “people facing eviction, deportation, child custody battles or other issues in non-criminal courts where the law provides no guarantee of representation.”
One more legislative effort–the legislature, in this case, is the New York City Council–to spread the humane ethics of Gideon to all indigent people who need legal representation. The City Council passed a bill establishing a Coordinator of the Office of Civil Justice.
