More good things today

“Mesa County, CO clerk Tina Peters and one of her deputies just got indicted on a combined 17 counts for an alleged breach of their own county’s voter data. Peters is accused of leaking the data to conspiracy theorists before giving a speech at Mike Lindell’s ‘Cyber Symposium.'” This was a tweet from a Daily Beast reporter. Separately, I’ve read that the enterprising indictee is (or was) planning to run as CO’s Secretary of State. So once again I ask: will any GOP candidate still be standing by the mid-terms?

Tweet from Brian Deese, director of the National Economic Council: “Many people don’t realize this, but because of historically strong economic growth & policy choices, the deficit last year actually fell. By $360bn. AND Maybe even more surprising, we’re on track to see the federal deficit fall by >$1T this yr, the largest nominal decline ever.” GOP (and Joe Manchin): The sky is falling! Democratic Party: No, the deficit is.

The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that the number of white nationalist, neo-Nazi and anti-government extremist groups in the U.S. fell for a third straight year in 2021. Wait, so does this mean our fear of white supremacists taking over our government and country is, maybe, a little bit overblown? Maybe we can work with our therapists on reducing our fear proportionately with the reduction in white crazies.

And in related news, the “People’s Convoy” truckers, currently hanging out in a Hagerstown, MD race track or something, announced they would not be driving around and around the DC Beltway today. Why? Because it’s raining.

“Our military has managed to replenish its arsenal due to many pieces of equipment it took on the battlefield. Enemy tanks, armored vehicles, ammo will now work for our defense. What could be more humiliating for the invaders? We’ll beat the enemy with its own weapons.”- Zelensky

From today’s New York Times: “New Yorkers With Marijuana Convictions Will Get First Retail Licenses. Officials intend to reserve the first 100 or more retail licenses to sell marijuana in New York for people who have been convicted of related offenses, or their relatives.” What can we call this? Retribution, on an O. Henry level?
