Pundit or expert: a top-notch definition

Chapter 5 of How I Learned The Facts of Life is “Pundits and clairvoyants and the facts of life.”

In it, I do my own little definitions of pundits and experts. (Clairvoyants need no definition, although I slap at a couple of sports reporters who fancy their predictive powers.)

Last night, I was really delighted when Rachel Maddow handed off to Lawrence O’Donnell, who told her he’d invited Neal Katyal on to talk about law and what was going on in Portland.

O’Donnell said Katyal had agreed but said he had to spend some time reading and reviewing our laws before he could offer any authoritative comment.

Rachel laughed and pointed out that was the distinction between an expert and a pundit.

Yes.
