The Global War Against Women: Jewish orthodoxy

From yesterday’s New York Times, by Joseph Berger:

Outcast Mother’s Death, and Questions About Jewish Sect’s Sway Over Children – NYTimes.com.

Here’s a woman who did escape from the Hasidic sect that, let’s be clear, owned her but was driven to suicide by them.

And she wasn’t an “outcast.” She was an escapee.

It is not the most appalling aspect of fundamentalist religion — but it’s high up on any rational woman’s list — that they don’t give up: these fundamentlists will pursue anyone who leaves the sect forever, it seems, or until the person who has left is dead.
