That’s how the New York Times headed its article about an Hasidic woman with ten kids who decided she wanted to be a physician. So she asked her rabbi (male) if she could, and he said OK.
The article intends to portray this woman as a hero. I mean, good grief, she had three of her kids while in med school!
But to me, this is a religious horror story.
“The rabbi said it was OK.”
Do you need to hear anything further about fundamentalist branches of religion to grasp that god was invented by men who found women mysterious and frightening, and needed an omnipotent, invisible assistant to scare women into obedience?
