Today, Mara Gay had a column in the New York Times about the inexplicable cave-in of major white-shoe law firms, but praising a cadre of current and ex-employees whose training and desire were to represent poor clients pro bono, and who are speaking out against the shocking collapse of ethics and integrity in these firms.
After reading it, I did as I always do, clicked on the readers’ comments. I consider this Times facility a fascinating and important international forum in which I can absorb (or reject) the views of others.
Sometimes, like today, I am inspired. I’m profoundly grateful for Tim B., a Times’ reader from California, for what he wrote today.
Read it.
One man with no plan and hate in his heart is steering America straight into an economic ditch, cackling all the way from his gold-plated golf cart in Florida.
As markets crash, investors flee, and global confidence evaporates, he congratulates himself with all the grace of a toddler finger-painting with gasoline. While economists warn of a looming recession and the Dow free-falls like his moral compass, this charlatan posts caps-locked nonsense about how “ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL!” — ironic coming from a man whose every decision is a masterclass in failure.
He invents quotes from Warren Buffett, threatens trade war like it’s a game of Monopoly, and brags while Americans lose jobs, retirement savings, and stability. He rules not by strategy, but by spite — dividing nations, breaking laws, and now deporting legal residents like it’s some fascist bingo night.
And the GOP? The party that once claimed to care about business, jobs, and the Constitution could still alter the course of this Titanic. But instead, they sit in silence — hands folded, spines missing — as the iceberg looms.
But this country has endured worse than one con man with a Twitter addiction and a taste for authoritarian cosplay. When he’s gone — and he will be gone — America will still stand, bruised but unbroken. The economy will recover, the Constitution will outlast him, and decency will eventually reclaim its place.
God bless America.
