Trump told the truth once at the debate. What it revealed stuns me

It stuck in my mind, what Trump said, maybe because it was his single moment of fact. I think it told us more about his innards, his mind, his view of his role in life than almost anything he said with his monstrous lies and crazed fantasies.

Remember when he turned on Biden and said (transliteration), “I fired people. You never fired anybody! I fired them”? And he went on proudly to name some of his firees and slam them as stupid and bad and whatever.

Trump poked his finger at Biden and accused him of never firing anybody.

First thing I thought was, no, Biden hadn’t fired anybody because the people he’d brought into the administration were so damn fine. Moreover, most of Biden’s original cabinet has remained with him. Which is, I believe, one sign of a strong, successful presidency.

But the major realization I had was about Trump himself: this is a guy who thinks firing people is what great presidents do, and he must have been a great president because he fired people!

Isn’t that what he did on “The Apprentice”? I ask because I never saw the show but have seen promos and therefore am faintly aware of that ugly signature moment, when he’d say “You’re fired!!” at one of his “apprentices.” Poking his finger at them.

I think Trump still sees himself as the boss of “The Apprentice,” still relishes that line written for him, “You’re fired!!”

He is clinging to the fake power a scripted TV “reality” show contrived for him.

“You’re fired!!”

Trump’s sole moment of truth.

He’s scary nuts.
