Trumptopia and emoluments

Yes, we all knew about emoluments and how they are unacceptable behavior from public servants. Especially presidents.

But now, thanks to Trump, we know the emoluments clause, when defied, does not send T-men to drag the offender out of his office and whip him or something on the front lawn.

Thanks to Trump, we now understand how helpless we are as we watch the criminal organization known as Trumpworld do their $$$business while we are all left to scream out loud.

Except when a pro bono organization named CREW sues Trump for violating the emoluments clause, and then we cheer. But we also wait. Because lawsuits take time.

Which, as an ex-law firm employee and successful plaintiff, I certainly did know. I am left to attempt to soothe my nearest and dearest while they scream and rant and flail because what we all really want to do is stalk into the White House and physically pull all these awful people out and dump them into the trash.

I take a deep breath.

The emoluments clause of the Constitution — Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 7:

The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive with that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.

And just as a lagniappe, here is Article II, Section 4:

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

My bolding.
