From November 2016, we knew he was rotten, a monstrous creature who did not belong anywhere near the White House. He was a dreadful accident of our particular democratic system.
And throughout those lousy four-plus years, we saw the wreckage he made of our government. Agency by agency, corrupt people went hogwild.
We saw how stupid he was, how crazy. He did not try to disguise it. He functioned out in the open.
So we knew all this. We knew how bad it was. And we suspected what went on in the White House, leading up to January 6.
Yet, somehow, we didn’t know all this.
Seems clear that being shocked daily for a number of years does not make one immune from being shocked even more.
