Goodfella ‘bias’ suit whacked
A federal judge Thursday whacked a lawsuit filed by a Queens construction worker who claims he was unfairly rejected by the crane operators’ union because he’s related to mobsters.
Thomas Vario, the great-nephew of Paul (Paulie) Vario—immortalized in “Goodfellas” by the actor Paul Sorvino—had accused Local 14-14B of the International Union of Operating Engineers and its court-appointed monitor of discrimination.
“They should be ashamed of themselves for picking on someone who has worked his entire life,” Varia, 46, said. “I can’t be held responsible for what went on 30 years ago.”
Judge Sterling Johnson ruled the monitor is lawsuit-proof and the claim against the union was legally defective.
