You know who doesn’t vote?

It’s getting frantic, isn’t it? Polls are announced! amount of money raised is announced! interviews with “swing” voters are published! And we thrill or suffer accordingly.

As a Times reader I learned what a bunch of “swing” voters in Georgia think about the election. Gee, well, you know that hilarious TV ad for some insurance company? It is a dark and stormy night and a group of young people outside a scary house are tremulously debating what they should do next and a young woman quavers, “Why don’t we just get in the running car?” And is rebuked. “Are you crazy?!?!?”

So one of the guys says they should hide behind a wall festooned with deadly tools. “Good idea!” and they scramble behind the tools.

Then comes the shot of the mad killer — a big guy holding a chain saw, I think, with a fright mask pushed up onto his head, and he’s watching the kids hide and with a deadpan expression, shakes his head slowly at their stupidity.

I always laugh at that, because the actor’s face is so funny.

That was my face, when I read that Times “forum” of Georgia voters, whose ideas about the election are so…I sat here at my computer, shaking my head. No mask, no chain saw, just dull dismay.
