Did you know god gets pissed if you defame him? In Ireland?

Maybe you’ve heard about this insanely hilarious business, in which Stephen Fry, the brilliant British Renaissance man (and the best Jeeves), has been criminally attacked by Ireland, the Country for…saying bad things about god. And using the small “g”.

Anyhow, in a reverse of the Floaty McFloatface principle–the People Speak and the Council Must Listen to Them–nobody spoke up for god.

This is such good news for Stephen Fry and great news for the rest of us who are otherwise immersed in matters concerning the Horror.

From 538’s Significant Digits:

€25,000

An investigation into alleged blasphemy by comedian Stephen Fry was dropped after Irish police could not find enough people outraged over his remarks. (Fry had referred to a “capricious, mean-minded, stupid god.”) Under Ireland’s 2009 Defamation Act, being “grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters sacred to any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion,” can get you fined up to €25,000 (about $27,000).
