Trump’s friends are maybe not doing so well

I saw the news about the arrest of Robert Kraft, the Patriots’ owner, on Facebook.

Now, as you probably know, I’m working on a book called “How I Learned the Facts of Life,” which draws sharp distinctions between fact and fake. So my immediate reaction was, eh. That’s how I deal with enticing items or rumors which may prove to be fake.

It wasn’t.

As we’re all learning very quickly, if you want to keep your dirty and/or criminal secrets secret, don’t con your way into becoming president of the United States. And don’t be a friend of the guy who did. Millions of eyes are watching you.

I don’t want to suggest the Times is shoving a very sharp stiletto into our national nightmare — the one who keeps calling them the enemy of the people — but here’s the last paragraph in this article, with my utterly unnecessary bolding:

While Mr. Kraft lives in Massachusetts, he has owned property in Palm Beach, Fla., for a number of years. A powerful voice among the small fraternity of N.F.L. owners, Mr. Kraft is also a vocal supporter and friend of President Trump. Earlier this month, Mr. Kraft said on Fox News that Mr. Trump was “working very hard to serve the best interests of the country.”

The Times did not have to include this in the article. But they did.
