The god problem:”Pool Rules: No Running, No Eating…No Men”

Two New York agencies are trying to resolve a complaint that says female-only hours catering to Hasidic women in Brooklyn violate a city law.

I expressed my opinion about this municipal pool nonsense a short while ago. I’m no less angry reading the follow-up story from the New York Times.

This business is such an egregious violation of the separation of church–synagogue, in this case–and state. A municipal pool, paid for by our city government, i.e., my and your taxes, can’t, absolutely can’t ever, bar you and me from its use to give special consideration to a religious sect. Which could and should build its own damn pool.

Worse, for me, it’s an egregious violation of the fundamentalist god principle: separation of men and women by pretending women are getting special elevated treatment when in reality Orthodox Judaism acts always in suppression of women’s civil rights.

And, in this case, stretches its arms way out to suppress the civil rights of everyone who isn’t Orthodox and female.

I am so pissed off. (You figured that out, didn’t you?)
