Why I vote

Because I can.

Because when my mom was born, my grandmother couldn’t vote and my mother came of voting age only a few years after women got the right to vote.

Because it’s my privilege and my responsibility to support a system of government I believe in.

Because I’m moved and thrilled every time I enter a precinct and fill in my ballot.

Because too many other people can’t vote, so I’m voting for them, I’m voting for candidates who believe everyone should be able to vote and who will work toward that goal.

Because the one time I didn’t vote–I was going to Europe and forgot to file a ballot in absentia–nobody I supported won and I felt the whole world was falling apartment. (Little did I know.)

Because I can.

Because I must.
