Re Gorsuch: The WTF quote of the week

Source: An ‘Ideological Food Fight’ (His Words in 2002) Awaits Neil Gorsuch – The New York Times

Out of the mouth of the utterly non-ideological, utterly pure-of-heart Chief Justice John Roberts, via Adam Liptak’s fine and infuriating article in today’s New York Times:

These days, Chief Justice Roberts said last year of Supreme Court confirmations, “the process is not functioning very well.”

“Look at my more recent colleagues, all extremely well qualified for the court,” Chief Justice Roberts said, “and the votes were, I think, strictly on party lines for the last three of them, or close to it, and that doesn’t make any sense. That suggests to me that the process is being used for something other than ensuring the qualifications of the nominees.”

Oh, gee whizzikers, Mr. Roberts. Now why should this sad situation be the case?

Maybe because of your leadership of a court that gave business oligarchs and their vast funds free rein to buy whole states, to buy senate seats and now to buy a seat on the Supreme Court, do you think?

Maybe because your leadership of the court demolished the crucial Voting Rights Act, allowing states maliciously to suppress the votes of minorities, do you think?

Yeah, Roberts: the “process is being used for something other than ensuring the qualifications of the nominees.” The “process” is being used to object to handing seats on the Supreme Court to the minions of oligarchs and the fever dreams of anachronistic religious fanatics.

I’m so so sorry you’re sad, Mr. Roberts. I’m sorrier that you’ve chosen to form the antediluvian legacy with which you apparently want to go down in history.

Way down.
