Residents. That’s who.
As the Trumpistic S.A. walk around Washington D.C. doing their best to look like soldiers in a war zone, yesterday’s Daily News offered a contrarian voice from one of those guys who doesn’t live in the city he’s talking about.
Here’s what David Tulanian, from Henderson, Nevada, has to say:
In response to Trump dispatching federal officers to the streets of D.C., Sen. Chuck Schumer said, ‘I feel perfectly safe’ walking around the U.S. Capitol grounds and vicinity. Of course the senator forget to mention that he has 24-hour taxpayer-funded security and the use of a car. I bet his young staffers who don’t enjoy ’round-the-clock security may whisper that they don’t share their boss’ view.
So, David, I’ve checked with one long-time resident of Washington, D.C. who doesn’t work for a senator and has no personal security. What does she think about the Tr(ump)oops stalking her city to make her feel safe?
She’s my cousin, Janet Turk Wittes, who did not whisper when she arrived at Union Station to catch a train north. Here’s what Janet had to tell me:
I want to report my conversation with the National Guard. There were several Nat Guards at Union Station. So I went up to a young, nice-looking one, and I told him that we don’t need protection for the Nat Guard. I said there are no marauding gangs in DC; our police protect us. You should go home or to to a place that needs you. He smiled, and walked away.
You need to know that Janet is a very small woman, my age, with a loveable, gentle manner. I’ve never heard her yell nor curse nor seen her throw things or exhibit any signs of potential verbal or physical violence. I can attest she is not a member of a gang, marauding or otherwise.
Her most awesomely muscular charcteristic is her mathematical brain: she’s a grandly successful scientist, a well-known biostatistician — although you wouldn’t notice that if you were a National Guardsman who encountered her in Union Station.
P.S. The only marauding gang in Washington, DC maintains its den in the White House.
