I studied French for a few years but find it hard to believe. I understand almost nothing and have not much of a vocabulary. However, there are two useful phrases I absorbed for voyages to France. “Pouvez-vous diviser en deux?” (Credit card question for restaurants when I was traveling with someone else, and I pride myself on my pronunciation.) And “Où est la toilette?” (I never learned how to say, “Where isn’t the Turkish pit?” in French or Italian.)
So today, I found the following from Harper’s Weekly Review interesting, since it suggested quite a few people did not know how to ask that question — even in English — or why in fact they should:
A California man had to be rescued after falling several feet into a toilet’s holding tank, a man in Wales admitted to defecating in a public pool 18 times in four months, the singer Noah Kahan requested that fans not defecate in their seats at his concerts, and the body of a newborn baby was found deceased in a portable toilet at an EDM festival.
